Once a template has been set up, they templates can be used to create dashboards or snapshots. Dashboards provide a live look at your Silktide data, while snapshots show scores from a single point in time that you can reference later.

A dashboard or snapshot must start with a template, so if you haven’t already got one that suits your needs, go and create a template first.

Dashboard or snapshot

The creation process for dashboards and snapshots is very similar. If you are wanting a live look at your data, you will want to create a dashboard. You can do this from the Dashboards screen by selecting the New dashboard button.

Alternatively, snapshots will save their output when they are created. This can help you see how much your site has improved in the future, as the snapshot will always show the information as was true when it was created. To create a snapshot, navigate to the Snapshots screen, and select the New snapshot button.

Creating dashboards and snapshots

The process for creating a dashboard or snapshot is largely the same, as you will need to complete the same fields. As described above, navigate to the Dashboards or Snapshots screen based on your desired output and select the relevant button to create a new item.

Template selection

The first step in creating a dashboard or snapshot is to select the template that will be used. The template will define the text, graphs, and tables shown in the dashboard or snapshot.

Website selection and date filtering

Depending on how the template was set up (One website, many websites, etc.), you’ll need to choose the website(s) you want to be included in the dashboard or snapshot. You can also set a filter for how much historical data should be shown in the dashboard or snapshot, as some widgets are set up to show score values over time. You can set this filter to be some number of days, weeks, months, or even years depending on your needs.

Name

To identify the dashboard or snapshot, it should be given a name. This will make it easier to find the dashboard or snapshot in the future. By default, this is set to the name of the template followed by "dashboard" or "snapshot".

Permissions

The final option is to state who has access to see and edit this schedule:

  • Everyone: All users within the account

  • Just me: Only the creator of the schedule

  • Custom: This will provide a table that can be used to select specific users on the account. This also allows users to be given specific permission to see or admin the schedule as needed

Don’t forget, if you’ve selected in the individual user or role settings that they can see all dashboards, this won’t overwrite that permission. If you don’t want a user or role to see a specific dashboard, you’ll need to uncheck ‘See all dashboards’ in the user or role settings.

Once all of the fields have been filled, confirm your choices by selecting the Create dashboard or Create snapshot button at the bottom of the screen. A green confirmation pop-up will appear in the bottom corner of the screen, and you'll be directed back to either the Dashboards or Snapshots screen. Your newly created dashboard or snapshot will appear in the list on this screen.

Viewing and editing a dashboard or schedule

From the Dashboards or Snapshots screen, selecting the name of a dashboard or snapshot will open that item. If you chose to create a dashboard, you can switch between the website(s) you see in the dashboard by selecting the name of the current website on the left-hand side of the nav bar at the top of the screen and selecting a different website from the dropdown menu.

There is also an Edit button in the top-right corner of this page that you can use to edit the settings of the dashboard or snapshot. Options to Print (this will allow you to ‘Print to PDF’ too), and view the dashboard or snapshot in Fullscreen are also available at the top of the page.
